Your post points out how difficult it can be to edit your own material, especially for an amateur. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I have also found there is a generational aspect to get across what you are trying to say. Telling a good story can be fun, exciting, and hopefully entertaining, but the use of euphemisms and analogies can confuse the literal reader.
